With Valentine’s Day approaching, the highly anticipated romantic film Fall in Love at First Kiss is coming along to the cinemas. Few days ago, a promo song of the film called “100 ways to dislike you” is released. The song is sung by The Landlord’s Cat, a Chinese folk music band that features the soft and sweet voice of the vocalist Xinyi Wang. In the song, Xinyi sings out the sentiment of the female protagonist Xiangqin Yuan and everyone who suffers from love like her. “How do I get over you? I’ve tried 100 ways to stop loving you.” The lyrics depicts how hard it is to quit love with a melancholic tone that touches the heart of all viewers.
The music video of the song includes many amateurs writing down solutions to get over someone they love. “Write down each of your drawbacks”, “Work like crazy so that I won’t have time to think of you”, “Throw away everything you gave me” and “Run 5 km every day” are just some of the examples. Nevertheless, no matter how hard we try, love is like an addictive drug that is never easy to quit, and this is why love is so fascinating.
Dalu Wang and Lin Yun
After all these feeble attempts to quit love, Lin Yun (starring as Xiangqin Yuan) wrote down, “I’m not waiting for you to like me. I’m waiting for myself to not like you.” In return, Dalu Wang (starring as Zhishu Jiang) responded, “It takes 100 reasons to dislike you but only one to like you.” Then, the music video ends with an on-screen statement: It takes 100 ways to stop liking you, but it never needs any reason to like you. This sweet confession between the two lovebirds has set the tone of the movie.
