Alan Mak in Taiwan
Nick Cheung as the accountant named Hui Chik-yiu in the film. This character originates from a certain brother of the director, who used to practice accounting related work. “This brother is nine years older than me and went to UK to study when I was young. Later on, he came back to Hong Kong and became an accountant. However, two years later, he went to sit the police officer tests. I thought: ‘Isn’t he an accountant? Why quit and be a policeman?’ I asked him about this after I grew up. He said studying accounting was fun, and he solved many problems by numbers. But when you become a real accountant, you have to use your expertise to hide things. He knew that it didn’t break the law, but it was deceiving people. I was astonished at what he said, and I have put what he said into my play. Nick will show you.”

Even Anita Yuen, the Hong Kong Academy Best Actress award winner, who seldom guest stars, agreed to be a special guest for Integrity. Director Mak uncovered an unknown story between Anita and him: “Anita’s father addresses my mother as cousin, so technically, Anita is my cousin. Her personality now is very different from that when she was a kid. She was very close to my mom when she was 7 or 8 years old. My mother was like her godmother. As she came to our home again when she was 18, she turned out to be a real beauty. Mom said: ‘Of course you remember her. You two used to fight a lot!’ I answered: ‘I didn’t fight her. She was hitting me all the time!’ Actually, we were just playing around. She didn’t’ really hit me!”
Alan Mak and Anika Yuen
Anika quickly took off in the entertainment industry after she won the crown of Miss Hong Kong pageant. At the same time, Alan Mak also started his career in the industry. He was the assistant director of Golden Girls and happened to meet with his “pretty cousin”. “The leading characters of that film was Sean Lau and Anita Yuen. She kept telling me at the filming site: ‘If you smoke, I’ll tell your mom; if you swear, I’ll also tell your mom!’ Although she said she’ll tell me off, she was very professional at acting. I felt a bit embarrassed for asking her to be a guest appearance in Integrity at first, and the role is a villain. But I think it would be a perfect role for her. Also, Sean’s involvement in the film had reminded me of her. Three days later, she returned my call and said yes!”
